E-mail: brisman@uic.edu Barbara Risman is Professor and Head of Sociology at the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is author of Gender Vertigo: American Families in Transition (Yale, 1998) and editor of the CCF anthology Families as They Really Are (Norton, forthcoming). Her recent work has also been published in The American Sociological Review and Gender & Society. She is one of the co-editors of the Gender Lens book series published by Alta Mira Press, Rowman & Littlefield, designed to transform the discipline of sociology by mainstreaming research on gender throughout the curriculum. Dr. Risman has been awarded the Katherine Jocher-Belle Boone Beard Award from the Southern Sociological Society for lifetime contributions to the study of women in society.
