Mark your calendars now and join the Council on Contemporary Families for this one-day conference featuring Dr. Mary Ann Mason, former Graduate Dean of the University of California-Berkeley and Prof. Carol Joffe, of the University of California, San Francisco, as well as other nationally known speakers on reproductive justice and our own unique format of short talks and lively discussion. All members of CCF are encouraged to attend. Registration will be opening in October, and more details about the program will be coming soon.
Brief description: Technology, medical advances, health policies, and social change have shaped the new frontier of reproductive health care. Those who receive and provide services face new possibilities, as well as uncharted risks. In contemporary US society, the concepts and lived realities of sex, gender, sexuality, parenthood, and family reflect increasingly more complex and inclusive definitions. With technological developments, medical interventions and growing inequality popularizing ideas like “fertility tourism” and “designer babies,” the need for research-based dialogue is paramount. At our highly interactive conference, leading scholars and practitioners will come together to address national issues as well as US reproductive health topics in a global context. With attention to access and affordability, as well as ethics and legality, this one-day conference will bring together a diverse group of experts — from fields such as medicine, law, psychology, sociology, and public policy — to discuss the rapidly growing field of reproductive science and health care.
