Christine E. Bose is Professor Emerita of Sociology at the University at Albany, SUNY, with joint appointments in the Departments of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Latin American, Caribbean, and US Latino Studies. She has been President of the Eastern Sociological Society (2011) and of Sociologists for Women in Society (2006), as well as the Editor of the journal Gender & Society (2000-03). She was the SWS 2014 Distinguished Feminist Lecturer. Her interest areas are U.S. and global gender inequalities, stratification and labor market issues, international development and migration, and race/ethnicity differences among women. She has published in the areas of occupational prestige and status attainment, women’s employment and poverty as it varies by ethnicity, the social impact of household technology, women’s work at the turn of the century (1900), gender and development in Latin America, women’s global care work and migration, and global gender research. Seven of her eight books focus on issues related to gender and work. Currently she resides in Seattle, Washington is a Faculty Affiliate to their Departments of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies and Sociology.
